Mazunte México

Mazunte is a small beach town on the Pacific coast in Oaxaca, Mexico (15.66485°N 96.55388°W). It is located 22 km southwest of San Pedro Pochutla on coastal Highway 200. Mazunte lies about 10 km west of Puerto Ángel, just 1 km from San Agustinillo, and 264 km south of the state capital, Oaxaca. There are two possible origins for the town’s name. Some sources say “Mazunte” comes from the Nahuatl phrase “maxotetia,” meaning “please deposit eggs here.” However, older residents say it comes from the word “mizontle,” which locals used for a species of crab that was once very abundant in the area.
